Great Video! Did you add the subtitles yourself, or was that google translate?

@ral5932 Great info, thanks!

in any event, if you use this machine, you are doing well in letting the water heat up fully, but you are wrong to tamp down so hard. That makes the water be in contact with the coffee for too long, which burns the coffee. Just tamp less, and aim for an extraction time of 20 seconds.

Also, you should remove the frothing aid, twist the metal arm to a slight angle, and make the milk swirl. That will get you microfoam, and in this maching you will need to froth for about 1.5 minutes Enjoy.

still not good enough. notice how the espresso barely has any crema. these 30 dollar machines don’t give you much crema because they don’t produce enough pressure. I would recommend going with the 65 dollar mr. coffee ECMP50. 30 bucks more gets you top of the line espresso and frothed milk.

@swarsny Search “Cuisipro Coffee Tamper Small” on Amazon dot com. Bought it for $12.95 back in 2008, price went up nowadays.

Awesome technique on the cheap machine. Looked so damn good, I wanted to smell the screen. Thanks for posting.

What size/make tamper is that? I can’t seem to find one small enough for the coffee holder in the Mr. Coffee I use (Model ECM 160). It seems to be about 2 inch diameter on top, tapering down to slightly less than 2 inches at the bottom.

kwok3d March 3, 2011 at 10:07 pm

@adamaliabarnes What I was referring to is that when you pressure the coffee powder with the tamper, it became very dense so when it brews, it drips very slow… and that makes stronger/better espresso. Before I realize this trick, the coffee drip fast and espresso was quite water-ry.

excellent demo…

adamaliabarnes March 3, 2011 at 10:35 pm

“the slower it drips, the better the espresso will be” yeah, sure.

Expensive isn’t always better, but what I notice is you don’t flush the steam nozzle before you place it in the milk. A stream of water always come out of mine at first but I have a more expensive one and the steam is ready even before I pour the shot.

I hear a cockatiel! I had one of those once, annoying as f**k. Thanks for the instructions though, saved me $3.50 a day.

I can’t get the right foam like you do, but I do exactly as you say…it’s strange!
